Chapter 1
Who Is Biscuit?
Biscuit
Hello! Oh—hello! Is this thing on? Ah, perfect! My name’s Biscuit and, well, I’m... not from around here. Nope, not at all! I traveled all the way from my very own super sparkly planet. It’s somewhere out in the wiggle-waggle part of space. If you ever feel fizzy, or you get all swirly-whirly inside, then you’ll understand why I came all this way! I wanted to meet kids just like you, ‘cause sometimes having big feelings can feel like you’re lost in a space storm, can’t it?
Biscuit
And just a little important thing, maybe you noticed—Biscuit is my name, I’m not a boy or a girl—just Biscuit! Sometimes that makes me feel a teeny bit different, but it also means I’m really, really good at understanding all sorts of feelings, every little one of them. Wobbly, fizzy, stormy, giggly... you name it, Biscuit knows it!
Biscuit
Oh, and you know what? When I first zoomed my spaceship down to Earth, I felt super different and kind of, um... well, out of place. Like, imagine landing your spaceship in the middle of a football field—oops! That was me. But do you know what? I found out that being different is actually a little superpower. It means I can care for people in ways that maybe others can’t. Because I get big feelings, too, and that helps me help you! Where was I again? Oh yeah—let’s talk about what we can do together!
Chapter 2
Managing Big Feelings Together
Biscuit
So, sometimes when my feelings get a bit too big or—what’s my favorite word? Fizzy!—I have a few little tricks up my sleeve. Would you like to learn them with me? One of them is something I call slow-motion breathing. It’s simple, but it’s kind of magical. You just breathe in nice and slow for five, hold it, then let it out as if you’re pretending to blow sparkles off your hand. Works every time! And if you close your eyes... sometimes you end up in a magical, safe space inside your mind, like a gentle pillow cloud or, um, a room full of dancing kittens—whatever you like best.
Biscuit
Now, let’s chat about those words for big feelings—sometimes mine feel wobbly, like jelly on a trampoline. Or stormy, as if my tummy's full of thunder. There’s no wrong word for your feelings, you know? Even made-up ones, like whizzy-wobbles! When I say them out loud, it sorta helps shrink them down. I always say, “If you can name it, you can tame it,” even if it sounds a little silly.
Biscuit
Oh! Speaking of stormy, my friend Zadie at school felt all stormy one day—she had clouds in her brain and a rainstorm in her eyes, she said. I sat next to her and we did our slow-motion breathing together, one, two, three... guess what? Her clouds cleared a little, and she found her sunshine again. It’s amazing what just a few big breaths can do, I promise!
Chapter 3
Rewards and Self-Care With Biscuit
Biscuit
Now, let me tell you about my very favorite thing—my Star Spangler Chart! Oh, I love it. Whenever I do something kind for myself, or for someone else, I pop a sparkly sticker on it. Sometimes, when you spot the good things you do—even really small ones, like giving someone a smile, or taking a deep breath when things feel tricky—you totally deserve a reward. Now, not just any boring reward—I mean fun ones, like an extra story, or maybe time in your fort, or picking your favorite snack. What do you think would go on your own Star Spangler Chart today?
Biscuit
You know, making good choices doesn’t have to be huge. It’s those tiny things: saying “thank you,” sharing your toys, or just taking a minute when you’re overwhelmed instead of shouting (I’ve done that before—oops!). When you notice something good you’ve done, tell yourself, “That was a good choice, me!” Believe me, you start to feel proud from the inside out.
Biscuit
Oh, before I finish, something special happened to me once. I helped a friend pick up their spilled crayons at school, and I felt so proud—I put TWO sparkly stars on my chart! And my extra reward? Listening to my favorite story with twinkly lights on in my room. It felt extra nice, like a hug just for me.
Biscuit
And that’s what we’ll do together—find ways to feel proud, to be kind, and to take care of all those big, big feelings. That’s what a feelings friend is for! Can’t wait to do it all again soon. Bye for now, my friend!
